The end of 2003: After working backstage in
"Mornings at Seven" and
"Godspell", I got the leading role, Lenny in "Rumors". The smiling
lady in the picture to the left is Stevie Holcomb who played Claire, my
wife. Stevie is still a close friend and she still refers to me as her
"fictitious husband." It's a good thing her real husband has a
sense of humor. It was such a relief to finally be cast in a non-musical. I love to sing, but when all you ever done is musicals, you get a bit tired. Musicals are extremely hard to do. Performing in "Rumors" taught me how to act in non-musical plays. It was a great just to concentrate on acting without music and choreography. Though I had to learn 118 pages of dialogue which included a 3 and a half page monologue. Jayne Brill, the director, probably thought I would never break the "musical stance". To this day I can still here her calling from the house during rehearsals, "This is not a musical, Sidney!" --Sidney Vaught (2006) |
